"What we mean by pop music of the '90s is maybe not what everyone else thinks but it's pop to us." — Edge, on Pop

by Syd

The biggest band on earth? Well, I think Australia has realised that U2 is not only the biggest, but in my biased opinion, the best band on Earth. Last night's show in Melbourne will go down as one of the great U2 concerts, where the crowd rocked the Telstra Dome, and more importantly, the band were simply at their inspiring best...From the opening tones of "City of Blinding Lights," one could tell that this was going to be a special night...all the songs were magnificent live, even if the Edge's guitar wasn't quite clear on 'Angel of Harlem'...from early on, we had 'the first time' and ISHFWILF, which demonstrated that U2 were in party mode tonight...all the songs felt fresh, and LPOE was alive, an great song live...Sometimes was emotional and powerful as was Miss Sarajevo...i think Bono's voice quality

the highlight was of course, Where the Streets Have No Name, which was magnificent...the red light made an appearance in the end, but live, one did not miss it one bit. One was stirring to say the least and the Dome has never looked so united with the glittering mobile phones...
The Fly and Mysterious Ways were amazing, as was WOWY...it was funny to see some of the crowd leave, only to rush back for The Saints and it was a perfect rendition...Party Girl was a fantastic surprise, and even shocked diehard fans and Kite was brilliant with the Digeridoo...it seemed so haunting that it looked like it was the perfect way to say goodbye...then the boys had a quick discussion and then 'BAD' came alive....with Ruby Tuesday and '40', it became clear this was the perfect way to send the greatest band on earth out of Australia...to those who came to last night's concert, it will be their greatest concert but for me, it will be the life defining moment...to see U2 in my home town is unforgettable, and I am so lucky to have their music in my life...thanks so much Bono, Edge, Adam and Larry because last night was quite simply, perfect (even with the Edge forgetting where he was, 'thank you sydney,...thank you sydney, brisbane, adelaide and Melbourne, in particular Melbourne'
