“Innocence is more powerful than experience." — Bono

by Geoff

This was something special. Minneapolis can be a fickle crowd, a bit reserved sometimes--I don't know what got into us! It was manic and ecstatic from start to finish. Biggest crowd ever at the Target Center (20,420). The boys sounded great. Bono in fine, full voice. Lots of broad smiles, a tremendously joyful, generous spirit from the very beginning when Bono and the woman who lost 75 lbs. danced together during an extended intro to Elevation. Electric Co. blew my mind! My favorite Edge guitar solo and it smoked, he played it furiously moving around the ellipse. Bono offered up a haunting Glynis Johns impression during "Send in The Clowns," beautiful moment. It was better than Live at Red Rocks. I could have left happy after that.
The band was loose, happy, and seemed genuinely impressed with spirit of the crowd, I know I was. Massive sing alongs all night long. They were comfortable pushing things a bit, playing a little "jazz" as Bono put it (i.e. Adam messing up the end of "Crumbs" real good!)
I was on the floor, just outside the barrier, soaked in sweat and tears. Reduced to cliches. That was THE best concert I've ever experienced. It's been twenty years since my first u2 show, I can't believe the ride they've taken us on!

Thank you Boys!!

P.S. Dashboard was the best opener I've seen for a U2 show. Set the bar a bit higher than usual for the headliners.

Name drop: Charlize Theron in the house.
