"People tell us during our shows we sell very little in the way of hot dogs." — Edge

by Raphael

What an inspired performance tonight. It superceded last night's show in both energy and charisma. Bono had a classic moment with an amazingly endowed fan who chased him around the stage and taunted him with her titanic feminine wiles. His Bonologue about the Pope was especially moving and effective. I kind of hoped for MLK to go with it, but that might have been somewhat cliche. The set, though, seems to work better with "City of Blinding Lights" opening than "Love and Peace." I've had the fortune of attending 3 nights so far, including the rehearsal and tonight walked all over them. They seem to still be tweaking with the program as "The Ocean" was introduced, but at the expense of "An Cat Dubh/Into the Heart." Covers seem to be finding their way into the tour, as Bono sang a snippet of the Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Under the Brigde" at one point, but it was just the opening verse and he again ang the chorus of the Who's "I Can See for Miles" after "Electric Co." "Unchained Melody" was played almost to its entirety, too. Hopefully by the time they get back around these parts in November, they will add on tracks from October and Unforgetable Fire (I Fall Down, Tomorrow, and A Sort of Homecoming would work so well as a bridge from old to new) and if we're really lucky, they'll hit us with "Original of the Species." Overall, very satisfying!
