"The [Joshua Tree] songs really belie the image of the group as sort of flag wavers with anthems. I think each is a lot more about frailty, fragility, and brokenness than about being affirmative or faithful." — Bono

I live in Australia and not having had U2 tour our country in many years I was very excited to get a ticket to this first LA show, though I was to be seated in the rafters much to my disappointment.

However, once I managed to climb the many stairs to my seat which was 3 rows from the back of the Staples Centre, I made friends with 2 lovely people next to me and we shared the best U2 show I have ever been too.

I was hoping the band would open with 'Love and Peace' as I always thought that would make a killer concert opener. The set list was great and very mixed, pretty much 2 songs from most of the band's albums. I was so surprised and happy to hear old classics 'Electric Co'. and 'Into the Heart' having been a U2 follower since the mid 80's and these songs have not been played in many years. Hearing all the new material from 'Atomic Bomb' was fantastic and blew me away. The highlights were for me were 'Love and Peace', 'Miracle Drug' and my new favourite 'City of Blinding Lights'.

Having not seen a show live since Popmart I was happy to see a more stripped down to basics staging look again, but the lighting was incredible. I certainly hope to see another show on this tour and that U2 bring it to Australia next year. The LA experience will be hard to top (with the exception of the nosebleed seats), but I had an amazing time what with the new friends I made sitting next to me and the incredible show that U2 always give.
