"I look more like an artisan than an artist. I have these big hands and this pointed face. Where's the glamour in all that?" — Bono

Telly good show, Bono

Superstar Bono wowed fans at the first of two hastily arranged Scots gigs last night and joked: "I hope there was nothing on the telly you really wanted to watch."

The singer and his U2 mates played in front of a 10,000 sellout crowd at Glasgow's SECC.

Bono said:"Sorry that this was a last minute kind of thing, but in this day and age I suppose you could have set your videos before coming to see us."

U2 only announced the two Scots shows last Thursday. All 19,000 tickets were snapped up in less than two hours.

The Irish legends blasted their way through an awesome 20 year set of hits.

The group nearly tore the roof of the big Grey shed when they strolled onstage and launched into 'Elevation'.

Classic after classic followed, including 'Sunday bloody Sunday','where the streets have no name' and 'with or without you'. Bono said: " We were told we couldn't fit this show into the SECC but I'd say it fits pretty good-what do you think?".

In a touching moment Bono dedicated the concert to his dad Bob Hewson, who died last week of cancer aged 75.
