"I wish I could live up to the idea of Christianity. It's like I'm a fan; I'm not actually in the band." — Bono

by Jim T

7 U2 show, second for the 360 Tour.

My first visit to Las Vegas and for such an over the top city, Sam Boyd Stadium is remarkably understated. After being in the reserved seats for my last 4 shows I ventured down into the general admission. Probably about 20 deep back from center. The Claw is more imposing from there than the stands.

The setlist was almost identical to the Toronto show I saw about a month ago. No "Your Blue Room'" or "Stay" with the addition of "Stuck in a Moment" , "A Little While" and "Mysterious Ways" Good move by the band in the last month to break up the early NLOTH songs. It still seems the casual fans are slow to warm to the new songs. The band was really tight, though, with lots of energy. They will put on a good show for the cameras in Pasadena

Highlights Elevation, Beautiful Day, Where the Streets Have No Name and ISHFWLF. I was with my brother who was seeing U2 live for the first time and he commented that Elevation was a great live song.

Bill Clinton at the show and was stuck in the traffic on the way out. You could see him in his van with the windows rolled down. Women shrieking as if it were Bono leaving.

One final note...it had to be the worst post concert set up EVER. 40,000 people departing trying to get a cab at once. For the first 1 1/2 just a trickle of cabs. Took a total of 2 1/2 hours to get back to my hotel after the show 7.5 miles away from the stadium.

Still, worth the 12 hours of flying and layovers from Syracuse, NY to see the show! As Bono said, Vegas is the Mecca for entertainers. Viva U2!
