"It's an extraordinary thing, I will admit, to have [U.S. Sen.] Jesse Helms to throw a lunch for you. You know it's bad for both of our images." — Bono

by Matt McGee

With opening night behind them, the band seemed to be much looser and relaxed tonight, and perhaps more assured in delivering some of the theater that's always part of a U2 concert. Bono made a couple jokes during the show about Edge's fall at the end of the first show that had everyone laughing. ("You may have heard that Edge fell off himself last night" and "People are saying that Edge downloaded himself into the audience without asking for permission" were a couple of the good ones.)

They mixed things up quite a bit (for U2) with a half dozen songs different from opening night. I loved hearing "California," which is my favorite song from the new album. "Miracle Drug" and "One" were done quite differently than on past tours -- sounded good, but they may need multiple listens before I really get a handle on them. The BB King tribute ("When Love Comes To Town") was expected and done well.

Overall, as good as opening night was, this was even better. Two great shows to open the tour!
