"All the stuff we use is always serial number 001. The first time they create this type of technology, it's U2 that uses it. Then everybody else under the sun goes out and gets it." — U2 concert tour stage manager Rocko Reedy

As Ian said: it was a strange concert. U2 supported Sweet Savage who were a local heavy metal band (They went on to support Thin Lizzy and U2 at Slane in 1981). We were just having a few beers in the Speakeasy in the Queens Union and on came U2 - there were about 20 people in the place from memory. I thought they were really good and danced to some of the songs. My lasting memory was that I had a mates pack of cigarettes in my my shirt pocket and Bono called me over between the songs. He asked me for a cigarette but when I went to take them out of my pocket he playfully tapped me on the head with an ash tray and told me not to be smoking. I remember Out of Control, Stories for Boys, Boy/Girl from the Three EP (Think they did 11o'clock as well) and thought they did some great stuff although I'd imagine they werent too impressed with the crowd. I made sure I went to see them in the Ulster Hall the next time they came to Belfast and have been a lifelong fan ever since and have seen them many, many times.
