"I can cry when I'm singing, literally. I can get very, very into it." — Bono

by DanP

I've decided to buy the stage and setup a permanent U2 360 show on the Vegas strip. I don't need the actual band members; the stage itself is the event. I wasn't planning to go to this concert as I was disappointed by the 9/23/09 concert much earlier in the tour when I wrote that U2 seemed to be playing to everybody and nobody at the same time - you can read my review on this site. But a last-minute Stubhub price of $18 (upper deck, but close to stage) helped change my mind and go again. U2 had an immediate sound problem (couldnt hear Bono at all) on starting the show, but this got fixed by the 3rd song. As usual these days, U2 has very good sound considering the huge venue. U2 has largely solved the dull setlist problem that plagued the 2009 tour. The show feels like a celebration of Achtung Baby, which is my favorite of U2s musical peaks. Emotionally, I thought the main set peaked with I Still Havent Found. Bono had a lot to say, including a nice reference to a show at the Fastlane nightclub in Asbury Park 30 years ago. He even read the setlist from that showprobably from U2tours.com! The extra encore of Out of Control was a great surprise. So, heres the strange thing, now having seen this tour from both the floor and the upper level: this show is better from higher up! From the floor seats, it is strange focusing on the band and watching them play to everybody and nobody. From high up, you dont focus on the band members, but on the event itself. That is how the show is meant to be seen.
