"Next time, we're going to make some changes in the way tickets are distributed. But you know what? We'll never get it right. There's always going to be scalpers, there's always going to be screw-ups." — Larry

by Dave Johns

The show was packed full of highlights including a rocking version of "Electric Co.," an acoustic version of "The First Time" and a real treat in the semi-acoustic "Stuck in a Moment." Let's get the basics out of the way first, the boys were in great form, the sound was incredible, Edge is awesome and it was cool to see Adam Clayton finally get the chance to come off the stage and strut around the catwalk with that sly cat-that-ate-the-canary grin. The first five songs -- COBL, Vertigo, Elevation, I Will Follow and Electric Co. -- set the pace for the rest of the night. The bridge between Love and Peace or Else and Sunday Bloody Sunday was, simply, awesome as Bono's drum-playing blended into Larry's opening beats. And, just as when U2 visited Mellon Arena in 2001, they boys really seem to have established a connection with the Pittsburgh audience. The crowd was loud, responded to each song, sang along with every lyric and was up all night. And the band, I think, fed off that. Just as during the "Elevation" tour, Bono remarked how the city felt like "home" and the band seemed very rewarded by the end the evening. Though for my tastes, it's tough to top their Elevation show in Pittsburgh. This one, however, gave it a hell of a run for its money.
