"I don't think it's a big part of our music to be drunk, or out of it. We're out there enough as it is." — Bono

Lots of opinions on this one- here's mine. 4th show of the tour for me. Bono's voice was definitely not in peak form. Noticed it right away from the first verse of COBL (though it got better as the show went on). Anyway, I think the rest of the band was working double time to help out- Edge was really covering on vocals, and th einstrument mix was pretty loud. So I focused my energies on the other 3/4 of the sound. UTEOTW was absolutely the highlight for me. STREETS might be overplayed, but I will NEVER get tired of it. And the more I think about it, the less bothered I am by the abrupt ending. Maybe I'd feel differently if it wasn't my 4th show of this tour, but I still really enjoyed it. The Instant Karma ending- as a previous poster stated- was (in theory at least) a way to end the show on an up beat, as well as a way of paying tribute to New York (Where Patti made her way, and Lennon lived out his too short life). In fact, my feeling is that they should've knocked right into VERTIGO #2 with Patti, It would've been a nice bookend since Bono inserts Patti lyrics on stage, and in her opener, Patti inserted Vertigo into hers. Anyway, I'm not a huuuuge fan of 2nd Vetigo, but it really rocked on 10/14, and might have been satisfying on 11/22 as well.

And, by the way, I don't think Patti Smith was the reason for the abrupt ending. Things were pretty loose all night and the ending reflected that. If you ever have a chance to see Patti Smith perform, do yourself a favor and go. She (and her band!!) absolutely rocked. For me, this was the most impactful opening act that I've seen at just about ANY concert. Yeah, she spits. and yeah, she fell. But spitting and writhing on the ground is what she does. It's Patti Smith after all. Anyway, just my opinion, but watching her perform is like watching the source of inspiration for so much music. Again, humble opinions, but I had a great evening.
