"But the real reason why it's unlikely that I will take to the front for any length of time, is that Bono can't drum." — Larry

by dirk t.

This was my first time seeing U2 as I was 17 and a big fan (along with the Clash, English Beat, Alarm, Madness), and they were by far the biggest thing to come our way from the Isles. The Alarm was solid as the opening act with their similar anthem songs - marching beats and good energy. U2 looked like they had been on stage for 10 years and were so involved with the audience, it was amazing how a 5,000 seat arena seemed like a club in Dublin. Bono's tightrope act along the bannister of the lodge section and hanging off and falling into the crowd's hands below was by far the visual memory to last forever. How the crowd handed him back to the stage - now that was cool! Great passion, great songs - it's incredible to see how they have lasted and thrived. This show hooked me as a lifelong fan!
