"All the stuff we use is always serial number 001. The first time they create this type of technology, it's U2 that uses it. Then everybody else under the sun goes out and gets it." — U2 concert tour stage manager Rocko Reedy

by Richard Stewart

The final show for North America was pretty awesome. In some ways it was a best-of-the-tour show. They played Stand By Me after I Still Haven't Found and Never Tear Us Apart after All I Want Is You. A small surprise was Whole Lotta Love after Discotheque (not heard since Rotterdam, I think). The folks from Wire got on stage and a mention from Bono. The show closed with an extended version of Mysterious Ways including a desperate attempt by Bono to get the crowd to sing "It's all right, it's all right. She moves in mysterious ways." I think he got a little frustrated because at the end of One he slammed his microphone on the stage repeatedly. So much that he had to get another one to continue. After One, which was dedicated to Kurt Cobain, the show closed with Wake Up, Dead Man and a twosome version of 40 which sounded great. The only problem was the crowd wouldn't sing along much. New crowd, I guess.
