"I distrust anything that's obvious, like someone saying, 'Let's be original.'" — Bono

by rocklush

After a few changes in the GA line (1 line, 2 lines, 1 line, 2 lines), we were ushered inside at close to 6:30. My group and I missed being in the ellipse due to the raffle, so we posted up front row on the edge's side of the ga floor. Openers Kings of Leon were entertaining and better than I remember them being when they opened for the Strokes. The show was amazing and their enthusiasm was evident. Bono and the Edge spent a lot of time out on the platform working the crowd. The setlist was great with no weak parts or downers and the addition of Gloria was outstanding. Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own was PERFECT and Yahweh, a song I did not particularly like on the album, was a different experience and great live.

The staging was scaled down and from the opening of City of Blinding Lights, the thing took off. My only complaint I guess is that the acoustics of the arena sometimes made Bono's voice sound like he just sucked on helium. It only affected a few songs and the band sounded great. There was a little humor at the end when Edge was playing bass and Adam played guitar on 40 and they were not on the same key so Bono went over and corrected them both and they went through the song. I loved the new bead curtain and the effects that it was used for. I heard that Eddie Vedder was at the show. The only celebrity I saw was NBA Hall of Famer Bill Walton in the center of the ellipse. I also saw a guy get kicked out of the ellipse because he was leaning over the barrier trying to talk to some one and he went all the way over with his legs up in the air and security took him out.
