"I don't believe in wishful thinking. You know, 'Imagine,' that John Lennon song, it's my least favorite of his songs. And he's the man for me, but it's like I don't believe that imagining is enough." — Bono

U2 figured out how to turn a venue with over 80,000 fans into an intimate experience. The claw contraption was a work of art with its video screens twirling hi-def images of our boys, patchwork quilts, and pulsating "crazy" heads. "Carnival, the wheels fly and the colors spin" came to mind even before they performed a heart- breaking beautiful "The Unforgettable Fire". Bono goofed the lyrics on "Stay", OK we get that. Folks, this was a live concert. I can see how the video screens might have made some feel like they were watching MTV. I believe that most of those 80,000 participants (yes, we participate, not merely watch U2 live) braved the bottle-necked parking lots and public transportation glitches to immerse themselves in the live experience, warts and all. Note to future concert goers: stay away from the spoilers on the internet, as tempting as it is to look on You Tube. Past tours seemed somehow more enjoyable when nothing looked familiar. But I got over that quickly as it never takes effort to get swept into the here and now of a U2 concert. Giants Stadium's open top was forgotten as Bono placed us into the palm of his hand. The gentle fall breezes and Mayor Bloomberg's helicoptor reminded us were really outside at a "giant" stadium, not at our own private blooper-filled concert. Long live U2 live!
