"A lot of our work in the '80s was very naive. But I like that now. It's ecstatic music. It has a sense of wonder and a joy about it." — Bono

by jim lawhead

This was my 25th Elevation show and 39th show overall and as usual the boys rocked. I have never been to a show on this tour that I would rate less than a '10' on a scale of 1-10. The only rate is whether it is a 10.2, or a 10.5 or an 11. I would rate this slightly higher than a 10 because of what I noticed as an increased energy level from the band, and especially from Bono. He came out during Elevation swinging his hips and his microphone and was into it from the get-go! As he said there was no where else he rather be on a Friday night than in Philly, except maybe for Dublin city!

The highlights for me was Wild Honey, the duets of Bono and the Edge on Please and What's Going On, and of course Streets Have no Name. I loved the way that he whipped his microphone frantically back and forth at the end of Streets. The only other time I saw him do that was at the end of Mysterious Ways in Slane and in Glasgow. Amazing, in fact one of the photos included here captures that moment.

Bono says that the band feels honored and humbled to be touring in America at this time. I feel honored and privilege that I have had the chance to experience these extraordinary shows 25 times in all over the US and all over the world.

I hope it isn't too long before we see them again.

Walk On!
