I slept beside my father with the sound of the audience ringing in my ears during his dying days. -- Bono, on being at his dad's bedside before he died, 2001 (Sun)

by BTH

I was there on the pitch on Friday and had a fairy miserable experience - tired out with queueing along with seemingly most of the rest of the people on the pitch and U2 going by numbers for the night...
I was outside the Stadium with my old mates who I was at slane1 with on Saturday night - us, a crate of guinness and about 200 other folks who proceeded to sing along with the crystal clear sound and have an even better night than the previous... The craic was mighty!
I saw U2s best ever gig on Monday night (and I have been to lots of U2 shows including Slane 1 & 2)from the canal end lower tier, all by myself and sitting beside 2 lads who I think thought they were at a bloody oasis gig! I only managed to get the one ticket on ticketmaster and the rest of my mates were dispersed throughout the stadium. I have to say the sound was perfect from where I was and I got a great overview of the whole gig (wore my sunglasses for the whole first half and I have to say I'd recommend it to anyone - makes the lights and screens much clearer!). Of course there was a bit of delay on the visuals but come on, you have to expect it when the lads are about 150m away!
I couldnt believe the setlist - they mixed it up, threw in a few of my absolute favourites particularly Gloria, Bad, Original of the Species... Bono was on top form and the rest of the lads were on fire... They just kept playing and playing! it felt like there was so much more to the show than on Friday night... And the encores were a joy to behold! Yahweh sounds and looks stunning and to finish with 40 with the remaining crowd totally up for it... I never thought I'd witness it again!! The crowd kept going for a good couple of minutes after Larry made his final wave and I was in heaven...
BTW when I say remaining crowd I mean the majority that stayed to the very end. unfortunately there were a sizable minority in the crowd that just didnt seem to give a s**t about U2 and who started leaving before ONE was over... I couldn't believe it. But who cares anyway whan U2 were playing a concert that will go down as legendary!
God I wish i was seeing them again, maybe night 3 in Amsterdam will top this... But I doubt it!!!
