"I'm just not sure I'm ready to accept institutionalization." — Larry, on being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Well, an interesting gig. Musically the band were brilliant especially Adam who was on top form and Bono's voice held up well. Electric Co was flawless, Zoo Station, the Fly and All beacause of you REALLY rocked. So from a musical perspective it was amazing (PA sound quality was 'ok'). If it was your first time at a U2 gig you'd have thought it was excellent. However.... I've seen them on all the tours since ZooTV and I thought the stage, lighting, video and general chreography were well down compared to ZooTV or POPMART. When I left my first ZooTV gig in 1992 (sheffield) and POPMART gig in 1997 (prague) I was convinced both times I'd seen the Greatest Show on Earth. Manchester Vertigo seemed incoherent to me in comparison. When the band came on it was hard to tell them apart from the roadies (from a distance) since they were wearing all black! Plus the stage was set very low - and I'm 6ft 6in tall. The video wall was used now and then with no particular flow. (The exceptions were Zoo Station and the Fly which matched the music perfectly.) Hopefully Willie Williams will improve things as the tour continues. So in summary... Band performance: 9 / 10 P.A. Sound: 6 / 10 Lighting and show design: 3 / 10
