"I still wince every time I see myself in that scene." — Bono, on his cameo in The Million Dollar Hotel

by Jordan

I got to the arena around 5:45 and got a great parking space because most of the parking area was empty. It had rained all day and didn't show any signs of stopping. The doors were supposed to open at 6 but they didn't open until about 6:45. During that 45 minute period of standing compressed in line, I picked up that there had been some confusion about GA seats and where they were supposed to go (my seats were reserved). When the doors finally opened I first bought some merchandise (which was really high priced) and then went to my seat. I had nosebleed seats but I could still see and hear everything. 7:30 rolled around and the arena looked almost empty. Nelly Furtado took the stage and played a 35 minute set of no good songs. I was really getting worried, because it didn't look like that there wasn't going to be many people there. Eventually more people piled in while the crew set up for U2. By 9 the place was almost full and the band made their way onto the stage. They went right into "Elevation" and sent the crowd in a frenzy. After that "Beautiful Day" in which Bono leaned into the GA seats causing a mad dash of security guards. Then "Until the End of the World" which isn't one of my fav U2 songs until I heard it live and seemed to really capture the darkness of Judas' betrayal of Jesus. The whole show was great, especially "Bad" "Where the Streets Have No Name" "With or Without You" and "The Ground Beneath Her Feet." When the band came back on during the encore they performed "Bullet the Blue Sky" "With or Without You" and "One." They started to leave the stage, Larry was already going down the steps, when Bono said something to all of them and they came back for "Walk On." The whole thing, songs and stage blew me away, well worth the $85 for a ticket and the 5 hour drive.
