"No one in Dublin was interested in us and we came down here as a last resort." — Adam, on U2 winning the Limerick Civic Week Pop '78 Competition

by Honey Gerheauser

This was to be my very first U2 concert in person. i purchased 2 general admission tickets online in November. We arrived at 7:50 am to wait in line not knowing what to expect and to get a great vantage point for taking pics. I was 279 in line so i thought i would definitely be able to get a great view. I was extremely excited about the show. Bono and the Edge have so much Energy!! I couldn't wait! My husband has been out of work for almost 2 years so we had to save for 6 months just to be able to attend. Only to have all of my expectations for a fantastic first show shattered. The opening act started 30 minutes late. U2 didnt begin until 9:30. I decided on a spot in the inner circle on the back railing closest to the walk around stage. Everyone began to croud in before U2 even started and i was pushed back up against the wall. I couldnt even Move!! couldn't dance. Could barely clap my hands. I even started to cry and just couldn't wait to go home. By the end of it, my asthma kicked in and was difficult to breathe. It was the biggest concert disappointment in my life! The moving bridge got stuck over our heads for 3 songs and couldn't even see the show. Fans were ignorant and oblivious to other fans! WHat is this world coming to? No one seems to care about common courtesy anymre :( Sad!! Needless to say, I was unable to take very good pics which was the reason for my showing up in line so early. Trash was everywhere! Litter bugs! So i got 4 hours of sleep the previous night, sat and stood on hot cement in the extreme heat for over 11 hours before the concert even started. By far, Not worth the sacrifice i made to have a great first U2 experience. I On a positive note, the sound quality was amazing. The band had tremendous energy! (Never too old to rock the house!)What Bono and the band has done on behalf of Burma is moving and brought me to tears. They give so much of themselves for others. Truly amazing!!
