"Music expresses the inexpressible. All our songs are about that, about inarticulation." — Bono

by Chris Franz

Last night's show was truly spectacular. In all the years that I've been seeing live concerts, I have never heard a crowd roar like the one last night. The boys put on a compelling performance...giving me goose bumps at some points and filling my eyes with tears at others. When you attend a U2 show you expect the usual highlights...Streets, Bullet the Blue Sky, One, etc. Yet tonight the highlights extended beyond the classics. Highlights for me included the opener, Love and Peace or Else...this song is really incredible live, City of Blinding Lights, and Miracle Drug. A touching moment occurred in the intro to City as Bono brought a little girl on stage. As the confetti began to fall during this song's intro, Bono had the girl mimic him, and together they raised their hands to the sky. Something precious occurred in this moment. I felt like I was watching an intimate moment between father and daughter. On the other side of things, I really enjoyed the stage and lighting design. It's really something you'll have to see for yourself. My only criticism is in the light curtains that come down from time to time during the show. I thought some of the graphics displayed in them, especially the fighter plane in Bullet the Blue Sky, looked like some terrible '80s video game. Yet all in all this was a fantastic night.
