Comments: U2 soundchecks "Mercy" and "Mothers Of The Disappeared" in the afternoon, but only the latter makes an appearance during the show. "Mothers" is dedicated to Fehmi Tosun, who disappeared in Turkey in 1995 and is mentioned on the Pop album notes. His family is at the show tonight. Turkish folk singer Zülfü Livaneli comes on stage to sing "Mothers" with Bono, then sings one of his own songs, "Yigidim Aslanim," with Bono. (This is rare, but not a first: A fan also sang his own song at a U2 show on Oct. 10, 1992.) Earlier, U2's crew joined Snow Patrol on stage for "Chasing Cars" - it's the last time Snow Patrol opens for U2 this year. U2's first show in Turkey attracts about 50,000 fans, making it the biggest rock concert in the country's history.
