"I'm in an interesting position because I'm the drummer. . . . People say what they feel, and don't feel that they're messing with my art."

U2's 'One' is Number One in Poll, September 13, 2006

U2's 'One' is number one in poll...but not in the singles chart, where it's number three U2 have finished top in a poll to find out the nation's favourite song lyric.

The band's classic hit "One" -- currently enjoying a new lease of life as a duet with Mary J. Blige -- lived up to its name by finishing at that same number in a poll conducted by VH1.

Though the track was written by Bono about the end of a relationship, the optimistic refrain "One life, with each other, sisters, brothers," won through in the poll of 13,000 people.

Coming second was a passage from the Smiths "How Soon Is Now?"; "So you go and you stand on your own, and you leave on your own, and you go home, and you cry and you want to die."

And Nirvana's "I feel stupid and contagious, here we are now, entertain us" from "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was third.

Elsewhere in the Top Ten were lines from Bob Marley, Eminem, Coldplay and Radiohead.

Mary J. Blige and U2 are currently at Number Three in the U.K. singles chart with the new version of "One," performed together in aid of the Hurricane Katrina benefit.
