"I suppose you could put in the liner notes: 'Please do not mistake Bono for God.'" — Edge

U2 Set List: Hamburg, Oct. 3, 2018

It's the national Day of German Unity, and U2's tour stop in Hamburg celebrated the reunification efforts that began 28 years ago, as well as the storied history of the band's lack thereof during the recording of Achtung Baby. Fans might recall the band arrived on this very day 28 years ago to begin recording at Hansa Studios. As the band's lore goes, a few hours after arriving in 1990, the band members mistakenly joined a parade of Communists protesting the unification efforts, but quickly left the parade after realizing their error. They then joined the many who were celebrating the reunification of Germany.

To mark the occasion, U2 surprised the audience with the tour debut of "Zoo Station," which was last performed in Berlin on Sept. 24, 2015 -- and only the second time since the Vertigo tour's visit to Adelaide in 2006. Again, the band nixed the "innocence" part of the set list and replaced it with "Zoo Station," "Stay" and "Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses."

MacPhisto once again brought up the "stench of democracy" in Germany, specifically pointing out that he loves walls and hates bridges.

Up next: a second night in Hamburg tomorrow.
