"[M]usic has lost the personality of human beings and musicians. It's got so shiny that it's as if there's a surface of Formica over it. And it's something that doesn't let you in."

Tonight's show in Copenhagen marked the 40th anniversary of Joe O'Herlihy's employment with U2, and to make sure he was still on his game, U2 shook up the first half of the show with two tour debuts and two rarities -- sending the U2 fan community into a different stratosphere of excitement.

The Songs Of Innocence segment of the show was replaced by some fan-favorite deeper cuts. "Gloria" found its spot in rotating song four position. The surprises continued as "The Unforgettable Fire" replaced "The Ocean," marking the first time the tune has been performed live since Horsens, Denmark, on Aug. 15, 2010. Following that, the band ripped into "Stay (Faraway, So Close)," which was last performed in Moncton, Canada, on July 30, 2011. "Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses" closed the trifecta, which was last performed on June 11, 2018, at the Apollo Theater. The only other time the song has been performed on this tour was opening night in Tulsa, OK.

Bono namedropped Lars Ulrich during "Beautiful Day," and dedicated "One" to O'Herlihy. He also dedicated the show to Danish rock musician Kim Larsen, who had passed away from prostate cancer earlier in the day.

Next up: Hamburg, Germany, on Oct. 3.
