"As a performer, I understand it takes a picture of me with the Pope or a president to get debt cancellation onto the front pages. Otherwise it's just too obscure a melody line."

Pollstar's Top Tours of 2017

U2's The Joshua Tree 2017 Tour was the top-grossing tour of 2017, according to the concert industry trade publication Pollstar.

Pollstar says U2's tour brought in $316 million on ticket sales of 2.71 million. That puts U2 slightly ahead of No. 2 Guns 'N Roses, whose tour earned $292.5 million with 2.68 million tickets sold. Coldplay, Bruno Mars and Metallica round out the top five.

The Joshua Tree 2017 Tour included four legs and a total of 51 shows around the world (we include U2's Bonnaroo show in our count; Pollstar doesn't). One show in St. Louis was canceled due to protests in the city that prevented law enforcement officials from being able to work U2's concert.
