Bono pushes men to fight for women's equality in new TIME magazine essay

@U2, January 04, 2018
By: Matt McGee

Bono is calling for men to get more involved in the fight for women's equality. In an essay written for the new issue of TIME magazine, Bono credits his wife, Ali, and daughters Jordan and Eve, for "homeschooling" him on this subject.

The news that I was getting Glamour's first Man of the Year award amped up a conversation in our house -- that Eve and Jordan think is the only conversation -- about the fact that, as Jordan reminds me, there is nowhere on earth where women have the same opportunity as men. Nowhere. Which has something to do with the fact that around the world, there are 130 million girls who are not in school. That's so many girls that, if they made up their own country, it would be bigger in population than Germany or Japan.

Bono also narrates a short video that accompanies his essay -- a video that's available as augmented reality content if you have a copy of the print magazine and the right app.

Bill Gates is the guest editor for this new issue of TIME and tapped Bono as one of the contributors.
