U2 resubmits application for Dublin exhibition center

U2 has resubmitted an application to build an exhibition/visitor center in the Dublin Docklands, in response to "serious concerns" that the Dublin City Council expressed last year after the band's initial application.

The new application calls for the visitor center to be 2.34 meters smaller than originally planned, according to the Irish Times. The hope is that the smaller size will eliminate objections expressed by dozens of nearby apartment dwellers that the previous height would block natural daylight from reaching their building.

U2's initial application was submitted last June. It includes a visitor/exhibition space on the site of the band's old studio at No 15-18 Hanover Quay. If approved, it'll include themed rooms that celebrate the band's history including one called "Larry's Kitchen," marking the location where the band had its first meeting in September 1976. Planners are saying that the facility can be expected to attract 390,000 visitors annually.

The Dublin City Council is expected to decide the fate of this new application in February.
