Adam Clayton Talks Depression, New Album on The Late Late Show

@U2, May 02, 2014
By: Matt McGee

As expected, Adam Clayton was one of Ryan Tubridy's guests on tonight's edition of The Late Late Show on RTE-TV. The purpose of his appearance was to promote this year's Walk In My Shoes campaign, which raises money and awareness for mental health programs for young adults.

Adam spoke at length about his battle with depression, which led him to drink a lot of alcohol and eventually miss a concert on the Zoo TV tour. Toward the end of the conversation, he also repeated some comments he made earlier in the week about U2's plans to finish its new album soon:

We've been working to get it finished this summer, and hopefully have something out by the end of the year. That's our plan. I think it's our 13th record. We want to make the songs really count, and they're getting better all the time.

You can watch the whole show for the next three weeks on RTE's website. The interview segment begins at about the 8:15 mark, and Adam's album comments happen at about 24:25.

UPDATE: The interview is on YouTube and embedded below.

UPDATE #2: Adam also sat down for an interview with Ireland's TV3, which didn't air until May 6th. That video is below.
