Adam Clayton Joins Irish Officials to Announce Expansion of Music Generation

@U2, January 27, 2016
By: Fernanda Bottini

On behalf of U2, Adam Clayton joined Taoiseach Enda Kenny and Minister for Education and Skills Jan O’ Sullivan to announce a commitment to facilitate the expansion of Ireland's Music Generation program to nine additional areas of the country and secure funding for the program beyond 2020.

This announcement follows a recent 2 million euro donation by U2 from the band’s 2015 Innocence + Experience Dublin shows and 1 million euros by The Ireland Funds. The Department of Education also committed to ongoing funding.

"Five years in and Music Generation is continuing to thrive," said Adam Clayton. "It is wonderful to see this further commitment from the government which will bring us closer to achieving the goal of access to music education for every child and young person in Ireland. The support we received at school was very important to us as young musicians, and we are very proud of our part in this programme."

Music Generation is currently established in 12 areas of the country, reaching 26.000 children and young people annually who wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity to access music education. More information about the project: Music Generation.ie.
