"This image of 'the unforgettable fire' applied not only to the nuclear winterscape of 'A Sort of Homecoming,' but also the unforgettable fire of a man like Martin Luther King, or the consuming fire which is heroin."

"Wake Up Dead Man" (live from Slane)

"'Wake Up Dead Man' was something Edge had from the Zooropa sessions. It was a big Gothic rock song, which didn't seem right for this album. Towards the end of the sessions we dusted it off, stripped it down and did a very sparse, electric version of it. It's a very hard-hitting song." - Bono, U2 By U2 2006

Jesus, Jesus help me
I'm alone in this world
And a fucked up world it is too
Tell me, tell me the story
The one about eternity
And the way it's all gonna be

Wake up, wake up dead man
Wake up, wake up dead man

Jesus, I'm waiting here boss
I know you're looking out for us
But maybe your hands aren't free
Your father, he made the world in seven
He's in charge of Heaven
Will you put a word in for me

Wake up, wake up dead man
Wake up, wake up dead man
