"What [Bono] said was very interesting about debt relief. It's an important cause. But I really wish I had a ticket to his concert tonight."

VIDEO: Bono Accepts Award at L.A./Italia Film Fest

@U2, February 24, 2014
By: Karen Lindell

The soundtrack for red-carpet arrivals at the Los Angeles/Italia Film, Fashion and Art Fest on Sunday night was U2’s “Ordinary Love,” with the song’s video played over and over again on big screens in the lobby of the TLC Chinese Theatres in Hollywood. Bono, after zipping down the red carpet, attended the film fest’s opening ceremonies to accept U2’s award for “Ordinary Love,” the band’s Oscar-nominated song from Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom.

During the ceremony, Bono read from a love letter that the late Nelson Mandela wrote to his wife, Winnie, while in prison. Mandela’s love letters inspired the lyrics for “Ordinary Love.”

“We don’t know much about him as a man, as a father, as a friend, as a lover, as a romantic figure,” Bono said. “It changes the way we see him forever.”

On the red carpet, Neil Portnow, president of the The Recording Academy,” told @U2 that U2 is “a band that doesn’t make it about themselves. They get the connection between what’s happening on screen and ideas and issues that are so important.”
