Vertigo 2005: What We're Saying

@U2, January 26, 2005

For the past 36 hours or so, U2 fan mailing lists and message boards have been buzzing with discussion and comments about the U2.com Vertigo Tour ticket presale which began Tuesday morning worldwide. While some U2 fans were able to buy tickets they wanted, and felt were guaranteed them, most weren't. And those U2 fans are angry, sad, disappointed, and more.

Here's a collection of what U2 fans online have been saying so far on various mailing lists and message boards.

Apparently all of the Boston GA tix will be left for the fans who were smart enough to not spend $20 or $40 on the fan club.

Original Propaganda Membership = $30.00 U2.com additional membership fee = $20.00 U2 concert tickets = $353.41 U2.com & Ticketmaster: Worthless!

On the last tour there was a presale for NON-PAYING members of U2.com, and it was exactly the same as this. A few tix in varied sections, in fact most shows have this type of presale. But with propaganda it was a mail order sale where you would get great seats. Now they are having us pay 40 freakin $ for a presale that almost every other touring artist gives for free. Again I say.... WE WERE RIPPED OFF!!!!

REM don't charge for the chance to book early and neither do Radiohead. They aren't as successful and therefore wealthy as U2 So why do U2 charge for a system that then doesn't work?

5 words: I want my $40 back.

Last tour was exasperation at the disorganization that PM showed with something as easily corrected as a seating chart. This tour, they've made incredibly carefully worded promises and then broken them. I'm sickened. How many times have we defended the band when friends were tired of Bono or that iPod commercial or the Superbowl appearance? Hundreds?

The hypnotism I've felt every day since seeing the Red Rocks "Sunday Bloody Sunday" video in 1983 has finally almost completely worn off. It was a good ride. I have met some of my best friends because of them. But something has changed.
