U2's next single: Moment of Surrender?
@U2,
November 05, 2009
In an interview on BeatPortal.com (that we learned about from U2wanderer.org), British DJ Mark Knight lets's slip that U2's next single is apparently going to be "Moment of Surrender." Here's the relevant Q&A: Secret weapon only you have a copy of? At present it’s my remix of the brand new U2 single 'Moment of Surrender'. It has been going off everywhere. Adding fuel to the fire: "Moment of Surrender" is currently at #46 on the Mediabase Triple A radio charts, up from #56 last week. The current week covers October 29 to November 4. (see attached image) Assuming this is all true, it adds some light to U2's upcoming plans. We know the band is planning to return this month to Vancouver to continue working on new songs, presumably for the Songs of Ascent album. There was talk that the album might be released late this year or early 2010. But if U2 is planning to release one more single from No Line On The Horizon, it seems highly unlikely that a new album will be released anytime soon. New albums usually include new singles, and new singles are usually released a month or two before the album. Assuming a "Moment of Surrender" single is released in the next 3-4 weeks and then has a shelf-life of, say, 6-8 weeks ... that would seem to push back a new single until February/March at the earliest, and a new album a month or two after that. This, of course, is all speculation and U2 could change its mind tomorrow about "Moment of Surrender" and put out a new album before Christmas. Update: On Twitter, @MickiMaynard pointed us toward this YouTube audio of Mark Knight's "Moment of Surrender" (Demo Mix), which was recorded from BBC radio. Discuss this in @U2's Forum |
