@U2 QOM May 2010: A Question for BonoIf you could ask Bono one question, what would it be and why would you ask it?
@U2,
June 05, 2010
(Each month, @U2 puts a spotlight on U2 fans with our "Question of the Month." We pose a question to our readers and invite answers of 200 words or less. If you're interested in taking part, check our home page to see if the current question is still open. If not, check back shortly after the beginning of next month and we'll have another question ready to be answered!)
Misty Phillips: Dear Bono, I want to know how you continue to stay motivated and inspired in all of the work you do inside and outside of U2. What keeps you from getting tired and burnt out? Julie Cook: I would ask him does he write his speeches entirely on his own? Does he have any speech writers? Mrs. Debbie Clark: If I could ask Bono one question it would be "What is your definition of world peace?" Since Bono is quite worldly in the spiritual sense and seems to care a lot about what goes on in this Earth. Thomas Gagnon: I would say "Dude, you are the best, but how are your ears and hearing after doing this for 30 years?" Kimberly Croucher: "Did you EVER think that YOUR perception would change the way OTHER PEOPLE view things around them?" Samantha Rogers: If I could ask Bono one question I think it would be, "Could you please dance with my mother?" B85: Have you been able to pass your faith along to your family and, if so, how do you do it? Ben McCarty: To play off of a line from "Original of the Species," I would ask, "Did you get too good at celebrity?" Jean Scarth: If I could ask Bono one question, I would ask him if he would pray for me. Why? Because I have MS. It is progressing rapidly and I never know from one day to the next if I will be able to get out of bed, do my job or even take care of myself. I treat every day like a precious jewel and every U2 show like it is my last. What difference does one U2 fan's illness make in the greater picture of Bono's work in Africa and elsewhere? Not much, to be honest. But, it seems to me that the B-man has a direct line to The Big Guy upstairs so what could it hurt? Jen Willins: I would love to ask Bono to explain the whole thought process behind the words on "Kite" then ask him to sing it. The words that he sings into my ear are just so beautiful. The sound he belts out is amazing. What I get from that song has given me a whole new outlook on how I live my life with my family and with my friends even with my enemy (which turns out to be me half the time!) I would also thank him for all the words that he and the band has put out there all these years...they inspire me to be a better person. John from Irvine, CA: I'd ask Bono "Whatever happened to The Cranberries?" I'd ask him this question because I want to know the answer. If I wanted to ask a question that couldn't (realistically) be answered, I might ask Bono "What is the meaning of life?" or "When is U2's next album going to be released?" Bonnie Magers: When I told a guy that U2 was my favorite all time band, he said "They're good but I can't get past Bono, he's too liberal". How do you react to those who say you are too "liberal"? Are you offended or complimented? That guy is still reeling from the dumbfounded look I gave him :-) Elsha Stockseth: You know if I had the chance to ask him a question I don't know quite what I would ask because I would rather use my question time to try to thank him for being such a great example of a great person. I have never met anybody else like him especially celebrities. He is so sweet and down to earth. I wish everyone could be a little bit like him because the world would be a much better place. Allison Lehenbauer: If I could ask Bono any question it would be if he would have a staring contest with me. The first reason is silly, I simply think it would be fun and I have a theory that women are better at winning staring contests than men are. My second reason is that people's eyes are something that I personally find to be very revealing and fascinating. While having the opportunity to do this with each band member would be ideal, if I had to pick one I would still pick Bono, because it's rare to see him not hiding behind those cool shades of his. One entire minute of staring into his (or longer) without blinking would be awesome! For anyone who read the same piece, I absolutely do know what M2's wife was talking about and completely agree! Heather Wallace: I am reading (with the @U2 forum bookclub) At The End of The World by Flanagan and reading about the Zooropa tour so if I saw Bono right now I have would love to ask him: "who would MacPhisto call if he were to join the 360 Tour nightly?"
