@U2 QOM February 2010: Romantic LinesIn honor of Valentine's Day, what do you think is the most romantic line from a U2 song?
@U2,
March 03, 2010
(Each month, @U2 puts a spotlight on U2 fans with our "Question of the Month." We pose a question to our readers and invite answers of 200 words or less. If you're interested in taking part, check our home page to see if the current question is still open. If not, check back shortly after the beginning of next month and we'll have another question ready to be answered!)
Will Monahan: I love "Luminous Times". I love you cause I need to. Not because I need you. I love you cause I understand that God has given me your hand. He holds me in a tiny fist but still I need your kiss. Hold on to love. We are getting married in April and our first dance is "All I Want is You". I've then asked the band to break into "Beautiful Day" with a request for some personalized lyrics we've added: See the world in Green and Blue See Claire and Will right in front of you See the love in both of their eyes Feel the magic happening tonight April 17th Two Thousand Ten A birth of love which we know will never end See the bird with a leaf in her mouth After the flood all the colors came out IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL DAY!!!!!! Thanks for asking this question because it means so much more this year! Sean McGee: Easy one! All I want is you. Joyce: I think the most romantic lines is: I try to speak up but only in you I am complete (from "Gloria") It was hard to choose!!! Joshua Martin: From "Drowning Man" Take my hand Alan Dropkin: From "No Line on the Horizon" Time is irrelevant, it's not linear
Matt Catalano: From "Ultraviolet (Light My Way)" When I was messed up and heard opera in my head When I first fell in love at age 19, I wrote some of the lyrics to "Ultraviolet (Light my Way)" in a love note. I was trying to express my inner most feelings to this person and "Ultraviolet" just called out to me. After that relationship ended, I think a line or two from "So Cruel" would have been adequate. Pascal Heijlands: From "If You Wear That Velvet Dress" Last time you scratched at my door Harry Kantas: From "Luminous Times (Hold On To Love)" Maybe not a very romantic line, but surely a very true statement about love, and it's been sung only once, in the studio: I love you cause I need to, not because I need you Andrew Briscoe: A woman needs a man Like a fish needs a bicycle (from "Tryin' To Throw Your Arms Around The World") closely followed by... Surrounding me Rasmus Schøning: From "Acrobat" You can swallow or you can spit, you can throw it up or choke on it :) In context with the previous line What happened to your face of melting snow, do we still believe that Bono is a devout Catholic? :) MikeDonnaCasey: From "Moment Of Surrender" It's not if i believe in love, if love believes in me, believe me Elisabeth Deaton: I think the most romantic line from a U2 song would either be: Take my shirt, go on and take it off me
or Oh, tell me, Cherry you dance with me
Thanks, Bono, for getting to my heart through my head! Seth Otto: From "Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses" Took a drive in the dirty rain, to a place where the wind calls your name, under the trees, the river laughing at you and me. Elyshia Reis: I think the most romantic line from a U2 song would have to been from "Sweetest Thing": Eternal fire, she turned me to straw I know I got black eyes I can't help but think of Bono and Ali when I listen to this song and the fact that they have been together since they were in high school!!! Dean J. Klitzner: From "So Cruel" I am only hangin' on Jen Willins: After much inner debate... I narrowed it down to two romantic lines. In a song written by Bono and given to Roy Orbison: If my love is blind, then I don't want to see. Second pick is Let me love you, let me rescue you from "Ground Beneath Her Feet." This was an awesome question because it forced me to listen to U2 all weekend to figure it out! Loved it! Evert Neirinckx: From "Tryin' To Throw Your Arms Around The World" A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle. Nancy Meyers: From "In A Little While" When the night takes a deep breath and the daylight has no air If I crawl, if I come crawling home Tara O'Donnell: From "Hawkmoon 269" Like a rhythm unbroken Linda A Pettit: From "Love is Blindness" Love is blindness, I don't want to see, Won't you wrap the night around me, Take my heart. Love is blindness. Kris: Anything with Baby, Baby, Baby Jeff Ebbing: I have to admit this one was tough -- I TRIED to not email this but it was just too tempting. Here's my vote: the first line to "Silver & Gold": In the s**it house a shotgun B C Lefevre: I think the most romantic U2 lyrics are: You're in my mind all of the time Elsha Stockseth: I think that some of the most romantic U2 lyrics come from "City of Blinding Lights" They are: And I miss you when you're not around I have always loved those lyrics ever since I first heard them. They might not seem as romantic as some other U2 lyrics but to me they are. Sometimes it is just the simple things that mean the most. Indra Kāle: First that comes to my mind: You're in my mind all of the time I know that's not enough (from "Electrical Storm"). But there are too many romantic lines to mention all of them. Curadhan Powell: From "All I Want Is You" All the promises we make All the promises we break Nothing sums up the success and tragedy of being in love as this immortal Rattle and Hum line. All our lives we make promises that we have every intention of keeping, but then life gets in the way and the promise simply ends up broken. But true love...the kind that is shared on a deep level...doesn't keep record of these broken promises made but rather simply just wants the person they love. It doesn't matter all these mistakes I've made....because all I want is you. (c) @U2/individual contributors above, 2010. |
