U2 plays a short set at Rock Hall anniversary gig
@U2,
October 30, 2009
U2 closed out the two-night Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25th Anniversary concert on Friday with a short set at Madison Square Garden that included guest appearances by Mick Jagger, Bruce Springsteen and the Black Eyed Peas (one of the few non-Hall members to take the stage). You can see the full setlist and recap on U2tours.com. On Thursday, the announced schedule had U2 slotted for an hour-long performance and word was that the band was planning 12 songs. On Friday, the pre-show setlist showed U2 playing several fewer songs with an expected run time of 41 minutes. Only the need to stop and restart "Because the Night" a couple times caused U2's set to run close to an hour. No word on why the band's set seemed to be abbreviated. For what it's worth, they also skipped an expected visit to the media/interview room after their set ended. U2, Mick Jagger, and Lou Reed were the only performers not to visit the press room. HBO will air highlights of both concerts during a four-hour special on November 29 (in the U.S.; check local listings in other countries). |
