@U2 Exclusive: Bono Honored By Peers, Sings With R.E.M.

Bono took the stage Thursday night to sing "One" with R.E.M. at the close of the first annual Love Rocks: Celebrating The Biggest Hearts In Entertainment concert tribute.
The night began with No Doubt performing three songs, including a cover of U2's "Sweetest Thing." Lauryn Hill performed two acoustic songs before R.E.M. took the stage for the first time. Michael Stipe and his mates performed "Losing My Religion" and "Imitation of Life" and were joined by Cher on "I Got You, Babe." Comedians including Drew Carey, Kevin Nealon, and Ray Romano took the stage between musical acts. Former President Bill Clinton paid tribute to Bono via a videotaped message, and Tom Cruise spoke on stage about Bono's career full of humanitarian concern, including his support for Amnesty International, Drop the Debt, and similar organizations. Toward the end of the 2-hour tribute, Bono accepted an award from the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF), which created and hosted the Love Rocks event. After the award, R.E.M. took the stage one more time to sing U2's "One" in honor of Bono, and the evening came to an end after Bono returned to the stage to help Stipe finish the song.
