"So where does all music come from -- be it hip-hop or rock 'n' roll? I don't know. But I do know that all music is praise. It's praise to the god of your making. Which, in the case of a rock star, might be oneself. Or a woman. Or an idea."

U2 consider putting in Olympic bid

The Sun, January 29, 2009
By: Gordon Smart

Rock royalty U2 enjoyed recording their new album so much they are considering snapping up the studio where most of the sessions took place.

Bono and his band of merry men have spent much of the last six months holed up in Olympic Studios in South West London, putting together No Line on the Horizon.

Record label EMI, who own Olympic, recently put it on the market. The price remains secret but the building alone must be worth millions.

Now U2 are mulling over putting in an offer for the historic venue in Barnes where legends Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix and the Rolling Stones have recorded.

My man in the U2 camp said: "Bono, Edge and the rest of the band really enjoyed their time in Olympic.

"They knuckled down and really responded well to the place's atmosphere. They already have their own studios in Dublin but feel that Olympic could be a very wise investment. They're totting up some figures at the moment. If the maths works out there's every chance they'll put an offer in."

I'm backing Bono's bid. There is no reason why another buyer should keep Olympic as recording studios. It would be a great loss if it became a footnote in history.
