"Where are our roots? We don't have funky black roots. We don't have white rock roots. Our music almost doesn't seem to have roots. It's like totally our own." -- Bono, 1982 |

U2 Academic Conference Still Expanding
It's hard to believe, but The Hype & The Feedback - the first academic conference devoted to U2 - is a little more than a month away. It's scheduled for October 2-4 in Durham, NC, and even at this late date, new content is being added to the conference itinerary. For example, you've probably known that Agnes Nyamayarwo will be in attendance. Now we can report that she'll be featured in a special event hosted by WUNC host and NPR correspondent Frank Stasio that'll address Agnes' story as well as Bono's role in motivating people worldwide to do something for people like Agnes and others in Africa with HIV/AIDS or living in poverty. The exact date and time of this event is TBD, but it should be a good one. I think I can also say these two things:
I recommend trying to arrive as early as possible on Friday, and staying until really late Sunday -- or even Monday morning would be best, if you're flying. And if you haven't even registered yet, early bird pricing ends on September 7, which is less than two weeks away. You can register here right now. |
