Gaining the Edge
St. Louis Post-Dispatch,
January 30, 2002
[From Jeff Gordon's sports column in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch]
The E*Trade Halftime Show news conference turned into a real chucklefest with U2 singer Bono and guitarist the Edge cracking wise for the media. Edge warned reporters that the band would not field questions about the Drew Bledsoe-Tom Brady quarterback controversy. "It's up to coach Belichick what he wants to do," the Edge said. But he did add that "Bledsoe has a superior long arm" and that from personal experience, he knows that ankle sprains like Brady has, take longer than a week to heal. "We want to bring peace between Bledsoe and Brady," Bono interjected. "We want to bring peace between the NFL and the AFL, which may be tricky..." Bono acknowledged that Boston has a large Irish population, but that U2 wouldn't rule out cheering for the Rams on Sunday. "It sounds easy, but the Edge used to babysit Kurt Warner," Bono said. "There are old ties that you people don't know yet." © St. Louis Post-Dispatch, 2002. All rights reserved.
