Coldplay's Chris Plays U2 to Child
The Mirror,
April 14, 2004
Coldplay frontman Chris Martin has revealed that his unborn baby is already a huge U2 fan.
The lead singer, who married Oscar-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow, has revealed he loves their music so much he is playing their songs to his first child. The star said he is one of the band's biggest fans in a tribute to them in Rolling Stone magazine. He said: "The first song on The Unforgettable Fire, 'A Sort of Homecoming,' I know backwards and forwards. It's so rousing, brilliant and beautiful. "It's one of the first songs I played to my unborn baby." The singer, who will be a first-time dad this summer, said he knows the entire catalogue of U2's music off by heart. He added: "The first U2 album I ever heard was Achtung Baby. It was 1991 and I was 14 years old. "Before that I didn't know what albums were and from that point I worked backwards. Every six months I'd get to buy a new U2 album. "The sound they pioneered -- the driving bass and drums underneath and those ethereal, effects-laden guitar tracks floating out from above -- was nothing that had been heard before. "They may be the only good anthemic rock band ever." © The Mirror/MGN Limited, 2004. |
