Answer Guy: Where have you been lately?
@U2,
March 09, 2003
![]() From: Dave Where have you been? You've been missing ever since that @U2 party in Cleveland last month? Did the groupies track you down and do untold things to you? Can you tell us those untold things? Dear Dave: Answer Guy is grateful for the heartwarming concern of fans like you. Rest assured all is well and, yes, the groupies did track me down and do untold things to me. (Talk about it? How indiscreet!) Anyway, I am back now after being on assignment for UNMOVIC. Hans Blix contacted me to see if I could assist the inspectors in Iraq as they search for evidence that Iraq has weapons of mass destruction. Sadly, I came up empty on that matter, but this was a shock: while in one of Saddam's palaces, I did find the "Red Hill Mining Town" video and documents explaining who dies in the "All I Want Is You" video. There's also reason to believe Saddam is in possession of Bono's notebook with the October album lyrics. I'm preparing a report for the Security Council next week.
From: Tommy Im finding it difficuilt to work out whether or not you are for real...and whether these questions from other U2 fans are getting a proper response or just some well thought over but poorly executed load of rubbish that may explain why you only manage to reply to a handful of people a week and why you never answer questions that you could be proven wrong on... Dear Tommy: It has been several weeks since your email, and regrettably I have not filed a column since you wrote. So forgive me for not giving you more material to work with as you try to decide this burning question. I will work to remedy that in the coming weeks so you can reach a conclusion. Best of luck.
From: Raymond Which ones were the first singles CDs released by U2? My collection begins from "New Year's Day" up to "Electrical Storm" is there any singles on CD made before that? Dear Raymond: "With or Without You" was the first U2 single released on CD. However, in the years after The Joshua Tree's huge success, the record labels went back and re-issued some of the old singles on CD. They're all out of print now, but you can occasionally find singles as old as "Sunday Bloody Sunday" on CD.
From: Jane Could you give me an answer to this? I saw a documentary on MTV conserning U2's career and there was clips from Zoo TV (or perhaps Zooropa) tour. It was filmed with several cameras so I presume (??) that the whole show was recorded. Those clips were not from that Sidney show what they sell on VHS because the clips in MTV's documentary were filmed on day time and the camera format looked different. Do you happen to know where this show was filmed and where can I get that? Dear Jane: Since Zoo TV was a video extravaganza night in and night out, every concert on the tour was recorded in multi-camera format -- not as many cameras as for the Sydney show, but enough to produce a lot of footage. The footage you saw could've been from just about any show.
From: (no name given) How come U2 ALWAYS plays "New Year's Day" after "Until the End of the World"? Dear (no name given): On the next-to-last night of Zoo TV rehearsals, during a full dress rehearsal, they were just ripping through "UTEOTW" when Bono went over to Edge to rehearse the duel they do at the end of the song. Bono was a bit over-caffeinated this night, and really got into it. As he charged toward Edge, a big dollop of his Zoo TV hair gel came flying off his slicked-back locks and landed right on Edge's foot-pedal sequencer. It was jammed, and there was nothing Edge could do to pause it. The machine went straight into "NYD" and the band had to follow along. They decided to keep that song order, but it was agreed that from then on Bono would use spray instead of gel and he wouldn't start the duel within 13.5 feet of Edge's gear.
