Answer Guy: What are the small dots on Bono's face?
@U2,
February 09, 2003
![]() [Answer Guy is on his way back from Cleveland, and filed this week's column in advance.] From: Collette In some recent photos of Bono he has a patch of small dots under his left eye. I was just wondering what it was, if you even know. My friend and I think it's skin cancer, but i doubt it, or it could just be his unfortunate old age. Dear Collette: It's just harmless freckles. They're usually more difficult to see, but Bono tends to "break out" a bit whenever he goes more than three days between photo ops, news conferences, lengthy TV profiles or receiving any semi-major award. You probably didn't notice them on his face at the Golden Globes, right?
From: William Just wondering if you knew the meaning of "thanks to the flaming colossus" on the lyrics to "Tryin' the throw your arms around the world." I do. I had the honer of performing for Bono in Los Angeles that evening. Dear William: C'mon William, you need to try harder if you're trying to stump me (or impress me). Flaming Colossus was a nightclub/bar in Los Angeles that the band frequented quite regularly during 1988 when they essentially relocated there to work on Rattle and Hum. The Kitchen (U2's old nightclub underneath their hotel in Dublin) was modeled a bit on Flaming Colossus. "Trying to Throw," of course, is a drinking song...and thus the connection.
From: Don I have 2 questions. Im sure you've herd them already but nonetheless here they are: I herd that "where the streets have no name" is about Utah. But I don't know if I actually believe that. And I herd that Bono once talked about the book of mormon. Dear Don: On the first question: Unless Utah is heaven, I'd say no. On No. 2 -- Answer Guy doesn't have a complete collection of every word Bono has ever spoken, but given that his mouth is almost always turned on, and that no subject is too sacred, I'd say it's possible.
From: Brandon I faithfully read your answers, for some reason, and I don't think that this question has been asked. I really don't know the answer. Last night I was watching the Boston DVD and I was reading all the credits. There was a section that said all the songs were written by U2, except one called "Let's Go To Church" by The Blind Boys of Alabama. Can you give some light on this? I know Bono like to add in snippets of songs...but what is this song. I don't recall ever hearing this song. Dear Brandon: That's the song that you hear during the break between the main set and the encore -- the song that plays as the band kicks in on "Bullet the Blue Sky."
From: Lori (at Disney) I just read an article you guys posted here at @U2 about Henry Rollins comments about Bono's activism. Talk about disdain for another artist. What's Rollins beef? Is he just jealous cause U2's music is clearly much better than any of Rollins crap? Dear Lori: Yes, Rollins' problem is one of jealousy. He's not only jealous of U2's success, which reached a level he could never achieve in his band's or solo career; he's also jealous of Adam's "success" (i.e. - the photo on the Achtung Baby sleeve), which also reached a level he could never achieve. (I'm trying to phrase that in such a way as to get past the email filters I'm sure you guys have in place at Disney. Hope it worked!)
Please
take a look through old Answer Guy columns to see if your
question has already been answered -- use links at the bottom

PLEASE, no more questions about Bono's sunglasses, Edge's
shirts, Larry's shoes, Adam's pants, etc., or any other
piece of clothing! [Disclaimer: All questions taken from legitimate emails. Names have been changed to protect the innocent.
