After
seeing a U2 concert in New York in October, 2001, NFL officials decided
U2 was the band they wanted to perform at halftime of Super Bowl XXXVI.
The league had been planning a patriotic-theme for the game to pay tribute
to and remember the events of September 11th. U2 played "Beautiful
Day", then "MLK" which led directly into "Where the
Streets Have No Name." The names of the victims of September 11th
scrolled heavenward for most of MLK and Streets.
