Collectors' F.A.Q.

Question

What does the "LC 0407" that shows on many Island Records U2 releases mean?

Calle Hammermann: "LC" stands for LABEL CODE.

That means ISLAND has label code 0407, which makes sense because other Island releases (other than U2) have LC 0407 printed on the discs (Bob Marley, etc.).

Check this link for an explanation: http://acronyms.thefreedictionary.com/Label+Code+(IFPI)

And check this link for a list of major record companies label codes where ISLAND is listed at 0407: http://www.discogs.com/forums/topic?topic_id=87683.

The code-system with 4 digits is the old, original system. The new Label Codes have 5 digits. All older label codes with 4 digits (like "0407" for Island) may still occur as 0407 or (in most cases) beginning with a "0" like "00407". Most of the recent U2 releases since and including All That You Can't Leave Beehind have LC00407 printed on discs and inlays/covers. The Best of 1980-1990 and all (Island) releases before this album have the original 4-digit-label-code.
