Collectors' F.A.Q.

Question

From: Joost, The Netherlands

I have got an offer to buy a lithograph of the Joshua Tree sleeve. It is the limited edition (200 copies) and is hand-signed by Anton Corbijn. The price is $249, and it is in perfect condition, according to the seller. Have you ever heard of such items before? Are they rare (I believe that besides this one, which is the picture on the front sleeve of the album, there are some other one, with different photos) and what is a reasonable price for an item in perfect condition?

Dan Eliot: This item has been around for a while. Framed, this prices is about normal, unframed ... you are paying too much.

Nico: I bought one of these same items matted and framed with a certificate of authenticity back in 1994 for $175. I have seen them go on eBay framed but without the certificate of authenticity for around $150 or so. $249 is not that unreasonable but I still think it's a bit high for a framed piece. I think $200 is more reasonable. If the lithograph is not matted and framed I wouldn't pay more than $100 for it. Make sure you ask about the certificate of authenticity from whoever you are buying it from.
