Collectors' F.A.Q.

Question

From Chris, Michigan

I own a copy of "Boy", the cover version with the boy on it. Anyway on the back lower right hand side of the cover there is the Island label, then under that there is some Japanese writing, in which in the middle is the English letters "EMI". Under all of that it says, Made in Japan Y2500 1980 Island recording made by Island Records, Ltd. Also, on the front cover, upper right hand in the gray border is printed Stereo ILS-81395. PLEASE email me back and give me some info. on this copy, price etc. Thank you.

Chris Nilsen: What you have is the first issue of Boy from Japan. it was supposedly withdrawn for some sort of contractual problems and later issued on Polystar. It's uncertain how many copies made it into the hands of record buyers, but it is very rare. Value is $150+ depending on the condition.

Francesco Rastelli: What Chris says about this stuff is right, but from the description it seems that the specific copy is without "obi" so the value for this is 50% less than the right value that Chris give to the item in general.

"Where are our roots? We don't have funky black roots. We don't have white rock roots. Our music almost doesn't seem to have roots. It's like totally our own."
