Collectors' F.A.Q.
Question
From: Duncan, Co. Durham, UK
I am an avid collector of rare U2 records and have a couple
of little treasures in my collection, but to aid in my hobby
I was wondering if there are any books specifically related
to collecting rare U2 records? You are all to be congratulated
on a first class reference web site.
Matt McGee: Thanks for the kind words
about the Collectors' site - glad you enjoy it.
About books ... every now and then someone on eBay will be
selling an older book (1984 or so, i think) which is supposedly
some sort of collectors' guide about U2. I don't recall the
exact name. Anyone else know what I'm talking about?
Aside from that, there are no books I'm aware of. Record Collector
(UK) magazine has done a fair share of U2-related features over
the years, but I think most of us feel their prices are overinflated.
Goldmine (USA) magazine has done one large U2 feature. That
was back in 1990, and in fact, one of the the price guide contributors
to that feature was Dennis Crow, who has been a valuable contributor
to the Price Guide on @U2.
Lynn Edelstein: I think the book
that Matt is talking about is a magazine-type that I picked
up in 1985 called "U2 collectors guide, the unforgettable
discography." I have never seen this book since then. It
is quite helpful but only goes through 1985. It has both promtional
and non-promotional records in it. There is also a book by Bill
Graham, The Complete Guide to the Music of U2," that is
pretty good, too.
